Sunday, May 11, 10:30 AM: Bridging ceremony at the beginning of the service in Panabaker Hall. It is for those youth who are leaving high school this year and/or would like to mark their transition inot our larger church community.
Did you know that our Regious Education program here at the Unitarian Church of Calgary is the first church school in Canada to receive Green School recognition from the Seeds Foundation? To do this, our church school has done a number of environmental projects over the last few years, which counted toward our Green School Status.
Here are some of the things that we have done:
cleaned up the school yard every June for the past 3 years
participated in the Alberta Wildnerness Association's Tower climb for at least 3 years
did a yard clean-up for Rev. Meg Roberts, sending materials for composting and recycling
took on the "One Tonne Challenge" and shared achievements with the congregation (Youth Group)
a poem, "Mother Earth", was published in our RE newsletter (Ammie Ascanius, youth group member, was the author)
did a play to help raise funds for the World Wildlife Federation (Division 1)
participated in a play called "Stewards of the Earth"
used a recycling boxes in the classrooms for over 3 years
attended a Waste Management Workshop
began an energy audit of the church
learned about ways to help the environment at home
